Postnatal support Oxfordshire: Your questions answered

Postnatal support Oxfordshire: Your questions answered

1

Do I need to tidy up before you come?

Absolutely not, and please do not. I have had three babies of my own and there is nothing you can show me that I have not lived in myself. If anything, a messy house just tells me where to start.

2

Are you a midwife or a nurse?

No. I am a maternity support worker and a mother of three, I spent fifteen years supporting families within the NHS before setting up on my own. I am currently adding to that with a Doula UK recognised postnatal doula course in November 2026, to bring even more to the care I give. What I offer is practical and emotional support rather than clinical care, so I do not give medical advice, make diagnoses or carry out any sort of assessment. If something needs a clinical eye, I will say so and point you to your midwife, health visitor or GP.

3

Can you help with breastfeeding?

Yes, I offer practical help with positioning and attachment, reassurance, and building your confidence. If something more specialist is needed, I will help you get to the right person rather than guess.

4

What if I am formula feeding or combination feeding?

That is completely fine, and it makes no difference to the support you get. My job is to help you feed your baby in the way that works for your family.

5

How soon after the birth can you come?

Whenever you want me. Some families book for the first week, others wait until the visitors have stopped coming and it has gone quiet. There is no right time.

6

What actually happens during a visit?

It will usually start with a me making you a hot drink and having a chat. Whatever would help most that day I will do. Sometimes it is feeding support. Sometimes it is me holding the baby so you can shower or sleep. Sometimes it is a bit of tidying, something prepared for tea, or simply sitting and talking. You do not need to decide in advance.

7

What times do you visit?

Mostly daytimes, with some evening availability. I do not offer overnight support at the moment.

8

What if my partner is at home too?

That is fine, and often helpful. Partners can feel just as lost in the early weeks, and I am there for the whole household rather than only Mum and baby.

9

How many visits do people usually have?

It varies enormously. Some families have one and feel steadier. Others book a block over several weeks. There is no expectation to commit to anything, and you will never get a sales pitch from me.

10

What areas do you cover?

I am based in Witney and travel across Oxfordshire. Travel is included within ten miles, and there is a small mileage charge beyond that. If you are not sure whether I can reach you, just ask.

11

What if I need to cancel?

Life with a newborn is unpredictable and I understand that. I ask for 24 hours' notice where you can, but if something happens, ring me and we will sort it out.

12

How do I get started?

Send me a message or book a free chat. No obligation, and no pressure either way.
